This time-lapse replay video shows the unfolding of the creative process of an iPad painting that was created on March 24th, 2019, during a concert of the Gryphon Trio at the historic Kohl Mansion in Burlingame, CA, part of Music at Kohl Mansion for which I am Painter-in-Residence for their 2018-2019 season. The music featured on this replay video is Antonín Dvořák’s “Dumky” Trio No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 90, B. 166, one of the pieces they played in this concert.

OPENING RECEPTION

Unveiling of my latest “slow” project, a 5′ x 6′ acrylic painting on canvas “Gemini: Portrait of Laurel”, presented in public for the first time. Followed by artist and model chat where we shared some thoughts and reflections on the experience of creating this painting, Q & A, and spoken word poetry reading by Laurel, who is a philosophic poet and singer / songwriter, as well as a model.

I created iPad portraits from life of guests and live painted the stage presentation at the Michael Cerbelli’s “The Hot List™” 2019 in Moulin, Philadelphia, hosted by the International Live Events Association (ILEA) Greater Philadelphia chapter. I share here the replay of Michael’s presentation (at bottom of this page) plus some of the portrait time-lapse replays that show the brush stroke by brush stroke creative process. I used an iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd Generation), Apple Pencil 2 and Procreate app. Each portrait subject received the special and unique take-away of digital files of their portrait and the replay video immediately on completion, which they could then share on their social media.

I created iPad portraits of guests at the Artspan Benefit Art Auction VIP Preview Celebration at SOMArts, San Francisco, on March 21, 2019. I share here some of the portraits I created including the time-lapse replay videos showing the entire brush stroke by brush stroke creative process, plus a few photos of the scene as the portraits were being created. I used an iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd generation), Apple Pencil 2 and Procreate app. Each portrait subject received the special and unique take-away of digital files of their portrait and the replay video immediately on completion, which they could then share on their social media. My donation to the auction was a framed print of my iPad painting Art of Jazz which sold in the silent auction. Congratulations to the Artspan team on a great event and for the good work they do in supporting the visual arts in San Francisco.

On March 16 all five participating artists drew from the model in a Live Drawing session. From the curator’s statement: The 8th Annual Life-Live assembles five amazing practitioners of life drawing. Arc Gallery will be exhibiting their work in the Project Gallery. On Saturday, March 16th, the artists will be showcasing their skills “live” in figure drawing sessions open to the public in the main gallery. The gestural drawings will be ripped from their sketchbooks & displayed where they will be immediately for sale at $100 each. The remaining drawings are still available for purchase in the Gallery until the show comes down. The photos at the top of this page, taken by Peggy, show the two models, Titiana and Titine, in the clothed warm-up poses.

I was invited to live paint the entire day of wonderful, inspiring and fascinating presentations and performances at the TEDxBerkeley 2019: Infle(x)ion in the Zellerbach Auditorium of the UC Berkeley campus on March 9th, 2019 where they were celebrating their tenth anniversary. I created a single painting throughout the day using the latest iPad Pro 12.9 with Apple Pencil 2 and the Procreate app. In the video (above) you can see the time-lapse replay of the entire painting process, accompanied by Andrew Chen’s beautiful rendition of Schubert’s Piano Sonata in G Major which he played as everyone gathered in the morning, and see the moment when Royce Lovett had everyone light up the hall with their phones as he sang his beautiful and moving song Ballad (Fly).

This article, iPad Picasso Jeremy Sutton Paints Your Events, published in the Meetings Today online magazine, was written by Michael Cerbelli of the Michael Cerbelli’s The Hot List which I am featured on. See the San Diego, New York City and Philadelphia events I performed in as part of his The Hot List 2019. I’ll be on stage again when Michael presents The Hot List at the MPI’s World Education Congress in Toronto, June 17th.

Finally, by coincidence, after this article was published I portrayed Picasso using an iPad at the Daffodil Ball in Montréal.

At this corporate event I created, over the course of two and a half hours, an artistic interpretation that combined the scene I saw unfold before me at the reception with the Washington, D.C., skyline and iconic buildings.

In the process of making this live artwork I focused on using the colors that related to the company branding.

The tools used were the iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd Gen.), Apple Pencil 2 and Procreate app.

Here is a 48″ x 16″ framed pigment inkjet print made for the client.

On Saturday, February 23rd, 2019, I painted the scene at the Grand Opening and Dedication of the newly renovated Mountain View Community Center. I used an iPad Pro, Apple pencil and Procreate app. Congratulations to the City of Mountain View on their beautiful new Community Center and thank you to Greg and Colin and the team and staff who made me feel so welcome and created such a special event!

  
The artwork and replay video you see above were created live during a company sales summit at the MGM Grand Las Vegas Conference Center. My assignment was to capture the essence of the General Session live as it happened, with a final artwork that could be shared with the client and attendees as a visual summary they could look back at later. I worked on an iPad Pro and my live digital painting was displayed in real time on large projection screens as I painted so attendees could enjoy watching as it developed. My painting complemented and amplified the presentation on the podium.
