This painting was created live at a company VIP reception in the Terra Gallery, San Francisco. The theme was The Art of Atomic Layering, which fitted beautifully with the way that I incorporate multiple layers into the way that I build up a composition over time. In this instance, besides painting the scene and capturing the flow of the event and depicting guests, I also adjusted and experimented with layer blending modes and layer masks as I painted, all relevant to layering theme. When the company CEO said a few words I painted him as he talked. He emphasized the creativity and art of engineering equipment for layering, something I could relate to with my physics background!
