A selection of my artworks based on downtown San Francisco views and experiences are on display (and for sale) at The Market, an exciting new Food Hall in the street level of the old Twitter building, a 1937 Art Deco masterpiece with Mayan Revival and International Style elements, designed by architect Leslie J. Hendy, historically known as the Western Furniture Exchange and Merchandise Mart, then San Francisco Mart, then Market Square and now the Mart SF, at 1355 Market Street in the Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco. The location is open for the citywide Artspan Open Studios the weekend of Friday, October 23rd (6 – 9pm with guitarist); Saturday, October 24th, 11am – 5pm; and Sunday, October 25th, 11am – 5pm with a quartet playing in the afternoon from 12 to 3pm.

The exhibition will be ongoing until further notice. The regular open hours of The Market Food Hall are Monday to Thursday 11am – 7pm, Fridays 11am – 9pm.There is street parking on Tenth Street and paid parking under the building at 840 Jessie Street (flat $8 for first hour).

Lights on Mid-Market

Pigment ink print on paper, 24″ x 16″, 2009

I created this painting to depict the vision of a vibrant, exciting, bustling evening in the Mid-Market theater district of San Francisco. The bill-board depicted shows my painting of the fabulous New Orlean’s trombonist Trombone Shorty. It was created using a Mac, Wacom tablet and Corel Painter software.

Twitter

Metal print, 16″ x 30″, 2017

This painting was created, using an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and Procreate app, from direct observation of the headquarters of Twitter in San Francisco. It is part of a series of plein air iPad paintings titled “Iconic Places of Silicon Valley”. The image is augmented with a video sharing the process of creating it. To see the AR video embedded in image, download the free AR app Artivive and view through the app with your sound turned up – there’s a musical accompaniment!
