Painting From Photographs:
An Expressive Approach
Thank you for those who attended my platform presentation at
the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) conference
in the MGM Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV, on Tuesday, March 9, 2010
Synopsis
Every photographer now has at their fingertips an incredibly powerful array of digital painting tools, in particular the combination of the Wacom tablet, Corel Painter software and large format inkjet printers, that they can use to create magnificent painted artworks based on their digital photographs. My presentation at WPPI focused on an approach to using these tools that allows the photographer to create vibrant expressive works of art full of life and energy. My talk included an overview of the basic tools and a demonstration of the workflow and techniques that free you up to be creative on the digital canvas. I shared some of my favorite brushes, showed how I work with color, going beyond the color and tone in the source photograph and also shared some insights into more advanced techniques such as collage and post-print painting. I hope everyone came away from this program full of ideas, inspiration and motivation!
Listen to two interviews, one with MorePhotos Radio and the other with WPPI Radio, that were recorded prior to WPPI regarding my presentation.
Thank you to those who kindly completed my Professional Photographers WPPI survey. I am pleased to announce that, of the survey respondents, Darrell Chitty's name was the name was pulled out of the "hat" (actually pulled out of one of the original Painter paint cans) to win a free year of PaintboxJ Premium Membership. Congratulations Darrell!
