Enjoy this exciting and unique creative event which brings together dance, art and music in an evening of boundary-breaking celebration! During this unique evening of creativity, dancers will perform in front of paintings, created by your Move to the Groove Host, Jeremy Sutton, in which they are depicted. You'll have an opportunity to dip your own fingers into computer paint, as well as cut the rug up on the dance floor to a smorgosbord of great dance music embracing swing, tango, soul, salsa, blues, funk, disco and more...

Scroll down for the evening itinerary, map, directions, parking suggestions, places to eat, thanks and comments.

Here's the evening itinerary:

7 - 8:30 pm ~ Artist's Reception (artwork by Jeremy on theme of music and dance - including Brother Ray shown here on the event postcard) & special guided art tour by the artist starting at 7:30pm. Special Guest DJ Scott "Fancy Feast" Shank, will be spinning 78s from his extensive collection of 1920s - 50s swing, latin, soul, jazz, blues and tango.

8:30 - 9 pm ~ Fun, friendly beginner swing dance class with a creative twist.

9 - midnight ~ Move your happy feet on the large dance floor (venue is a wonderful 6,000 square feet space) with Special Guest DJ Manu Smith (an international Lindy Hop dance champion and co-organizer of the 9:20 Special) spinning an eclectic music mix of swing, tango, soul, blues, funk, disco...

During the evening enjoy beautiful dance performances by the following dancers (subject to change):

Manu Smith and Karen Chu in front of Groovin' (Lindy Hop);

Angie Major and Eldon Bryce in front of Reachin' (Latin);

Christy Cote and Darren Lees in front of Moment in Time (Tango);

Damon Stone and Ruby Red in front of Swing Out (Lindy Hop);

Chelsea Eng and partner in front of Melting (Tango); and

Andrea Fuchieleri and Adrian Jost in front of Hearts in Motion (Tango).

All evening ~ Experiment with computer paint in the Creativity Corner (that's right - your turn to paint and create, and try out the latest in Corel Painter IX software and Wacom graphics tablets, and take home a print of your masterpiece!)

Treat yourself to this special evening of creativity and fun!

Look forward to seeing you there,

Cheers,

Your host, Jeremy Sutton

Directions & Parking Suggestions

The entrance to Move to the Groove is 1500 Harrison, a doorway on Harrison about twenty feet from 11th Street, next to the alley Norfolk Street. The venue is the second floor of a warehouse building, right above the Cycle Gear shop (there's a big "Cycle Gear" sign on the building), around the corner from the DNA Lounge and Slims, kitty corner to the Costco parking garage, half a block from the Eagle Tavern.

Whilst you may find street parking, there is also a paid parking in the huge Costco garage ($10) and there is another pay lot right next to the venue on Harrison Street. Gentlemen will be available to escort ladies to their cars at the end of the evening. Ladies, please don't be shy to ask for an escort!

Places to Eat

For eating dinner within a short walking distance, try the Indian Garden Restaurant , 1259 Folsom Street, between 8th and 9th, phone 415.626.2798. The tranquil dining room gives onto a covered outdoor patio, where a fountain and waterfall create a garden oasis for warmer-weather dinners. Open till 9pm.

If you're feeling peckish (Britishism for "a little hungry") after the party then I can highly recommend Crepes a Go Go. It's a small crepe stand serving delicious savoury and sweet crepes. It has outdoor seating and is round the corner from the Move to the Groove event, on 11th between Harrison and Folsom. It is open till the wee hours...

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who is assisting with promotion, preparation and running of this event, including Shawn Luna for providing the sound system, Laurie Gordon, Dave Matthews, Robert Strong, Angie Major, the Metronome Dance Center staff, and many others for their promotion of the event. Thanks to Elise Noland for organizing all the volunteers (email Elise if you'd like to join the Move to the Groove team). Thank you to Brad Nye and the team at ArtSFest for including this as part of their festival and providing the wonderful creative space where it will take place. Thank you to Steven Smith of Wacom and Jim Chen of Audio Images for providing computer stations equipped with the latest Wacom tablets for guests to try out. Thank you to Sean Young and the Corel team for supporting this event and providing an opportunity for guests to experience the magic of using Corel Painter IX first-hand. Almost all the artwork on display at this event involved Corel Painter in some stage of the creative process. Thank you to Epson for providing the magnificent Epson 9600 wide-format printer that was used for almost all the art displayed. Without these volunteers and partners this event would not be possible.

Comments from previous Move to the Groove events (they used to be a monthly dance party that mixed many different types of music...)

"Gday Jeremy,

...thanks for putting on Move To The Groove last night ... it was FANTASTIC .. I had a blast! Great Event. I'm marking my calendar for all of them :)

Dave"

"Hi Jeremy!!

I had a wonderful time on Friday. You've got a great party going on there. Can't wait for the next one! Lot's of fun. And the couple of non-swing friends who came told me, they had a great time, and would love to come again too.... It's the perfect spot for everyone, I really like the music and atmosphere..

Thanks, Danielle."

"Yes Jeremy, please include me on your mailing list. I attended my first Groove in May and had a blast. I like how you play the sets : a few swing, a few salsa, a few funky tunes. Very cooool. The friendly crowd Cocomo draws makes it fun too!

Thanks, Terry"

"Hi Jeremy-

Thanks for another great party. I grooved so much I can barely move today, but it was worth it. It's such a treat to see a big room full of happy people!

Sweating and stumbling-

"Jeremy,

I don't think I've ever had so much fun dancing. It's great to have such variety of dances and music. It's like an all-you-can-eat buffet for dancers. Something for everybody.

Jerry"

"Even though I don't know how to swing...I had a great time..Met a lot of cool people..Great Job!!

Alex"

"Your party was absolutely fabulous. I had a great time. There was a great mix of people and great mix of music. why must we wait until September for more? No worry, I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Thanks again. Jennifer"

"Jeremy,

Holy sh*t!,I went to your event for the first time, not really expecting anything special and was promptly blown away. Got there at 9:00pm and finally stopped dancing at 2:00. I loved Spencer's eclectic mix of tunes, it was stimulating and exciting. I wish I hadn't waited so long to go, I will definitely tell all my dancing friends. If I didn't have something to do the next day, I'd still be dancing there. Too bad it isn't weekly. Thanks for giving me and the other dancers a great time.

Steve"

"Hi Jeremy,

I had a great time and so did all my friends...We are all anticipating the next one!.....I felt like I was in movie...it was really fun and great dancers everywhere...very special and really cool. The band was magnifico... and so was the D.J....really, Jeremy, it was close to perfection, in that all the elements were present for a truly memorable evening...you have accomplished a great vision in form....

Rhonda"
