Behka Painting the Golden Gate, 2017, iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, Procreate

This iPad sketch was created directly from life during my Inspiration From Monet to Matisse iPad Art Workshop. On Day 2 we visited Monet: The Early Years special exhibition at the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco. After lunch we strolled down the Lincoln Highway (it’s not a highway, actually just a beautiful small road with spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge) until we found a perfect perch to do plein air iPad painting of the scene, inspired by Monet! This sketch shown here is what I created (see photo below) of one of my students, Behka, as she in turn painted the Golden Gate Bridge. I title this “Behka Painting the Golden Gate” because the view of actually of the original Golden Gate as it was known prior to the bridge being built (see Ansel Adams’ iconic photos of the Golden Gate). The Golden Gate which was the passage between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay.
