Having lived in the Netherlands from 1985 through 1988, I have warm memories of the unique atmosphere of that beautiful country. This painting endeavors to capture the character of a beautiful day wandering around the gently curved Grachts (waterways) of Amsterdam. Notice the omnipresent bicycles (fietsen)...

This canal boat, appropriately painted in Dutch orange, epitomizes the wonderful parallel universes of the water and street life in Amsterdam, one next to the other, both intertwined together.

There's nothing quite like the joy of enjoying the Dutch "gezelligheid" (roughly translated as coziness) of sitting in a cafe and watching the world go by....
If you'd like to experience making art in Amsterdam, please join me for my Amsterdam Painter Workshop next summer.
